Yesterday, I was in bed getting some much needed rest after being sick for what feels like FOREVER! I used to brag about how hard it is for me to get sick (even as recently here) and now I find myself eating (or sniffling) my words. I’ve had a killer cold for the last three weeks and, while I’m luckily at the very tail end of it (finally), it’s got me thinking about my health and what I hadn’t been doing for the months leading up to prevent this from happening. I realize you can’t really control when you get sick or not, but there are ways to be just a little bit healthier and more mindful of how to treat your body.
One way I have been doing that is by taking a bunch of vitamins, googling “ways to be healthy” and eating a shit-ton of vegetables. In my researching haste, I stumbled across something called The Super Elixir Alkalizing Greens by Elle Macphearson (this post is not sponsored. One look at her and I will buy anything she tells me to). Essentially, it is a concoction of “45 natural natural ingredients including super greens, Chinese herbs, digestive enzymes and members of the maitake mushroom family” and, “formulated to be absorbed by your body at a cellular level, optimising the function of all 11 of your body’s systems; the digestive, endocrine (hormonal), integumentary (hair, skin & nails), circulatory and nervous systems to name a few.” Basically, everything I ever dream of. The Super Elixir aids in alkalizing your body, which, in layman’s terms, means keeping a neutral body pH of 7 (this can be tested using pH strips). On the flip side, an acidic environment can cause inflammation which is the root of many, many health problems, such as joint pain, digestive problems, acne, diabetes, blood pressure, etc. All bad.
So anyway, I started drinking this every morning in an effort to get better in the short term and improve my overall health long term. It is a powder (that comes in a super chic bespoke all-black caddy) that you add two teaspoons to filtered water or coconut water, stir and enjoy! Oh, and it actually tastes good! Kind of like a lime-y, sweet green juice. So far, I have noticed the small acne bumps between my eyebrows I’ve been waking up to are diminishing, my cold is getting better everyday (maybe just a coincidence, but still) and I have energy despite having been sick for three weeks (I even doubled up a Soul Cycle on Monday and felt great). As with any supplement or vitamin I let you know about, I also want to remind you that I am no doctor. I just want to share with you the great products I learn about because I’ve never been the best secret keeper anyway. ALSO, they have a protein powder that I just bought and will follow up with a review of that as well. If you have used this product before, let me know your thoughts in the comments below! I love chatting about all things health and wellness xo
